Haowei Hsieh's research interests are in the areas of human-centered computing, including human-information interaction, hypertext, digital libraries, and computer-supported cooperative work. His prior work focused on building visual information systems to help users organize information and build knowledge representations. His research studies how people work with information, investigates how information tools affect people's work practices and collaboration, and explores ways to improve interactions among users, information, and tools.
Patricia Katopol
Patricia Katopol's research interests are in the areas of knowledge management, organizational culture and information exchange, and information policy. She is particularly interested in helping small businesses and nonprofit organizations develop low cost knowledge management processes. She examines human information behavior in organizations from a holistic perspective using the Cognitive Work Analysis framework. Her research using this framework has included a study of the information gathering behavior of black graduate students in majority institutions and the relationship of support staff information culture to managerial decision-making.
