Informatics At Iowa
The University of Iowa has a strong core of faculty with an established international track record ranging across a broad range media of print, broadcast, still images, and video.
Computational areas currently being explored include:
- Algorithms for retrieval, classification, summarization, entity extraction, question answering, knowledge discovery, data and text mining, link analysis and XML databases
- contexts of this exploration include blog analysis, knowledge discovery in biomedicine, web crawler design, the design of digital libraries, RFID databases, data mining of patient records, and automatically profiling topics on the web.
- Study of the impact of informatics on information policy.
- Includes organizational and social aspects such as technology-related legislation, access to information, and technology use in the workplace
The Informatics (Information Science) subtrack represents an inherently multidisciplinary field. Affiliated faculty include:

The Information Science subtrack offers a Ph.D. (72 semester hours), an M.S. (33 semester hours) and a Certificate (18 semester hours) in Informatics (Information Science)
