Informatics is a field of study that applies computation to fields outside of computer science. The current context where computers are playing a vital role not only in academic disciplines, but in society at large, calls for practitioners and researchers who can understand computing, and also interface with other fields. The University of Iowa's Interdisciplinary Graduate Program in Informatics (IGPI) was developed to fill this gap.

IGPI offers a PhD degree, as well as MS degrees in Geoinformatics, Health Informatics, and Human-Computer Interaction, and a Certificate program.
