Biography

Jacob Simmering is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Occupational Medicine in the Department of Internal Medicine in the Carver College of Medicine. He received his PhD in Pharmaceutical Socioeconomics in 2016 from the University of Iowa. His primary research focus is on the effects of the environment, such as weather and pollution, on health outcomes, especially infections and acute exacerbations of pulmonary disease. Most of his work uses large secondary databases of healthcare claims and remote sensing measurements of environmental exposures with modern statistical and econometric approaches for estimating relationships and assessing possible causality. Additionally, he is interested in inexpensive and continuous monitoring of indoor air quality and health status in vulnerable populations.
